Catalytic converter
It is probably one or more of the catalytic converters that have gone bad and started breaking apart. pieces of the cats can go down stream and get caught up in the mufflers and or resonators restricting the exhaust.
You can break the law and go cat less but you will end up with a check engine light if you do not already have it lit up. there are ways to get this check engine light off and run cat less yet y-pipes with built on cats can be picked up cheap why bother with the hassle of trying to delete it.
This being said cats normally go bad when the air fuel mixture is off for one reason or the other ( sure old age catches up to them eventually ) but if you replace it with new cats make sure you are left with no check engine light no codes and a reasonably good running engine or you may end up replacing them again.
If you suspect or verify with a rubber mallet that debris ended up in the muffler and or resonator you may have to remove the rest of the exhaust and try and dislodge some of that crap so it can go back out the way it came in. A good leaf blower blowing back through the disconnected exhaust may help clear it out as well along with some taps with the rubber mallet.
