I have recently acquired several dozen chevy small block and big block motors. I am currently trying to build a catalog of information that will help me decode what each individual motor might be without tearing them all down and then working to determine a current value. I am having trouble decoding my very first block. I am so ashamed. I am hoping to find some help on decoding this block as well as the best resources to use in the future as I work to identify all of the others. Following is what I have and will include some pictures in hopes that will help.
That number comes back as a 1963 327 cubic inch motor, used in Corvettes, later in Chevelle's. Man, its been awhile since I have seen one of those 327's outside of a car
show. Is that a cartridge/canister oil filter I think I see? And that heavy steel intake manifold! Easy as pie to work on compared to alloy intake, though. Sweet!
Good Morning and Thank You for taking a moment to reply!
That is great information and will help allot as I work to put together a complete review of the motor. I've always been a big fan of the 327, my first car ever ran a hopped up 327 and it sure was fun. Yes, that is a cartridge/canister oil filter! I'm going to have to check and see if I can even get filters for that anymore. Should be fun. Am hoping to find someone that will appreciate it for what it is. Any ideas on where I can look to find what it's value might be?
You are welcome. Yes they still make the filter element for the original 1960's 327 cubic inch engine with cartridge oil filter. Seen some for 14 dollars but Amazon has it for $11 dollars:
Or you can get a kit to adapt it for the more modern spin-on filters as well. I can't count how many times I have changed these filters out, it was that many.
