Compression in a 250 inline 6
I have a 65 Chev C20, inline 6. It's a mint truck from
Montana, original paint no rust and a near perfect interior.
All 4 pieces of chrome are mint LOL
Someone replaced the original engine with a used 250 six.
Truck starts and runs fine. I need to be refreshed in some
area's. I have forgotten what the compression should
read in these old engines. Can any one help?

thanks Mudmaniac. I never found the numbers
I was looking for but my compression test did
tell me something. 1-157 2-157 3-160 4-160
5-160 6-157. I searched my casting number
and found the engine could be either a 230 or
250 from 63-74. With the numbers I got from
the compression test she otta be a good engine
for a while. Just finished the brakes yesterday.
This is a first for me, I removed all the lines
from truck, cleaned, painted and reinstalled the
orginal lines back on. We NEVER see this up
here in Kanukastan, salt ruins everything. Even
yhe line holders were re-useable. Thanks for
the tip

RE compression in a 250 inline 6cyl
Kawboy, That block & head were used by Mercruiser as boat motors for runabouts. Thousands still out there, running like tops. It should last you a very long time. Good luck and ride safe.

thanks man. Thats nice to know, I heard they were used in boats
but wasn't sure by whom. These engines are the best, easy to
work on and I just had to have me another one day. I bragged them
up to my son Tommy and I see he's grown fond of the simplicity, the
sound and the look too. Once I get all the little "Gremlins" worked
out I am hoping for some good summer drives, a spring trip to the
dump and fall wood cutting. It'll never see winter, rain or be left
to cook in the sun. It's the perfect rig for a Hick like me !
