Default Distributor ticking

so i have a 85 grand prix, with original 305, i have a ticking coming from the distributor, i replaced plugs wires cap rotor button, and its still ticking, i checked to make sure everything inside works and pulled it out completely and looked it over and put it back in, i have turned the cap and as i turn the ticking slowly goes away but when i quickly rev the engine it starts ticking and stops, and when it first started it would go away once the cars been running for awhile, but if i turned it off and right back on it would do it again, so its like warming it up doesnt matter, i have no idea and pulled it out so many times, iv checked everything i could possibly think of, the firing order the timing, i am out of ideas, but the solid ticking is coming right from the top of the distributor, like its the pick up or something, i was thinking abut just replaces the whole distributor right dont to the gears, let me know any ideas hopefully i covered any questions ull have, thanks
