Engine hot ac off problem!
08 tahoe ls with 4.8l about a year of owning the out of no where i get the indication on my DIC engine hot ac off... http://rd.bizrate.com/rd?t=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lowes.com%2Fpd%2FBostitch-2-5-in-16-Gauge-Finishing-Cordless-Nailer%2F1000302657%3Fcm_mmc%3DSCE_ShopzillaFeed-_-ToolsAndHardware-_-Pneumatics-_-1000302657%3ABostitch%26CAWELAID%3D%26kpid%3D1000302657%26szredirectid%3DSZ_REDIRECT_ID&mid=29931&cat_id=20000001&atom=10678&prod_id=&oid=8258563216&pos=1&b_id=18&bid_type=9&bamt=9a2afb930702cd49&cobrand=1&ppr=ec0ac687786bce2a&af_sid=23&mpid=1000302657&keyword=temp%20gauge&rf=af1&af_assettype_id=10&af_creative_id=2975&af_id=26865&af_placement_id=1stops working and fans kick on high by the the time i got home the check light came on it threw code p1601 for ECT out of range or not working
I start doing my research and find out there really no true answer to this problem except change the thermostat and ETC sensor....
I change both put fresh reset the code and 1 week later it came back on but no check this time so i take it to the shop and put on a scannner and it doesnt show anything abnormal the temp of the truck was spot on IAT was reading correct no codes stored in the BCM so he rest all yhe modules in the truck 2 days later it message came back on no check light i take it back scanner shows the samething and the resets itself after about 6 plus hrs of being shot off
Shop came to the conclusion maybe the computer needs a update i take it to the dealer and my ECM is up to date so they look for a block heater doesnt have one im in california master tech at says i have no idea i never had this problem buy another ECM reflash it that should work, been dealing with this for the past 2 months and been getting by, by pulling the battery cable off and reset the code if im driving for the day,
Finally both CEL and DIC message came on took it back to the shop and put it on the scanner and it shows the and ECT reading correctly eveb though the temp gauge is off, now the shop is saying its loosing signal some where leaning towards the fuse box in enginebay and its tripping the truck out to make it think its over heating but actually isnt now they want to wire the ect straight to power without it going threw the to fix problem, the shop doesnt know the problem, the dealer has no idea claims this never happen before lol
Id like to see if anyone else has been through this at all and what fix your problem any advice would be appreciatee before i do the direct and im still thinking its going to show up again...truck has 150k miles

Just thinkin
I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but could the radiator and or condenser be plugged with critters you cant see? I'm always surprised at what my air hose removes from the condenser on a regular basis. I fashioned a copper tube for my compressor air sprayer to fit between the radiator and condenser so as major disassembly is not required to clean.

No never thought of that ill give it a shot.... This never happens while driving only when i key on and off.... And happens more often on short trips...during the week i work and come home and it will never set the message but on the weekend running errands it will trigger and one thing we also didnt understand is why it never shows a CEL out of the few months its been doing this it only has happen 2 or 3 times and the second time it throw a CEL but not the engine hot ac off message on the DIC... Im still waiting for the truc to flash both so we can test it at the fuse box to see if its loosing signal somewhere but like i sayed it doesnt throw a CEL just the message only...its a waiting game
just wanted to see if someone else had this problem and what fixed it.
Again the truc drives fine doesnt loose power when this happens just shuts off my ac and the temp gauge stops working completly we even did the dashboard cluster test with the scanner and its not the cluster either...but all heat ranges and reading are spot on when we look at the scanner no overheating at all.
