I recently bought a 2013 Silverado 1500 WT 4.8L truck with 34K miles on it. The owners manual says to use Dexos1 5W-30 synthetic blend API SN engine oil. I called the dealership where I bought it from to ask what oil they used and they said they put conventional oil in it. I called my local Chevrolet dealership and they said they use Dexos 2 full synthetic oil.

So, we're all over the board and I'd like to know what y'all think. I bought some Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 Dexos Motor Oil at Walmart yesterday evening, which is a full synthetic oil. Is this okay or should I try to find some synthetic blend oil?

I have a 2013 Silverado with the 4.8. I was told when I bought it by the dealer that GM recommends Synthetic Blend only for their vehicles since 2011. That is all I have used since and it has 73,400 miles on it with no problems. Using full synthetic is also good to use.

 

So you can still find synthetic blend? Where do you buy it?

 

I buy mine at Walmart. I buy it online and pick it up in the store. Even if the store doesn't normally stock it, you can still buy it online.
