Engine swap 2.8 to a 4.3
Yes i just purchased my fist beater as a secondary vehicle. It's a 1991 chevy s-10 2wd single cab. it has 94,000 miles on it and its in ruff condition but i bought it on impulse. I want to pull the old motor out and put in a new motor thinking about a 4.3. This is going to be my first prodject and I wanted to know what kind of mods would need to be done even if it is practicle at all. If i purchase this motor will i need to upgrade the transmission? later on i will concentrate on all the cosmetic issues. looking forward to starting on it soon but I need to know what parts will i need to purchase after the crate motor I'm purchasing it offline at http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/123/...GMC-LB443Z.htm If this is the wrong engine to install i would like to know. I'm new to this and would like some input thanks . Also what else will i need to purchase to complete the crate motor
Your transmission will not bolt up to a 4.3. Also, the electronics are different between the two engines. You could take the wiring harness (Computer included) from another truck, or you could try to find the intake manifold and carb, and distributor from a '85 4.3 in a van or truck and avoid fuel injection. It's a worthy swap, but if you've never done something like it before, you might want to try and hop up your 2.8. HTH.
