i found a 96 3.1 malibu engine for my 97 malibu 3.1 is there any differences i should know about ? or will it button write up?(hopefully).

The only problem you might encounter is a difference in accessories and brackets. Honestly though I do not even see that being an issue. The motor itself is the same.
