I am rebuilding a Volvo TBG 6 wheel drive off-road military truck that has a Volvo B30 straight-six engine with overhead valves and is 2,978 cubic centimeters (182 cu in) with 130 horsepower.

I would like to replace the engine with a Chevy 283 but the Volvo frame is only 26 inches wide.

I have search for information everywhere on the Chevy 283 and 350 short blocks but have not been able to find the actual external dimensions of the engine. Does anyone know what the width would be at the widest point, what the overall length of the engine would be and how tall is it would be from the bottom of the oil pan to the top of the intake manifold?
