Default fluctuating oil pressure guage

My 1992 g30 van has normal oil pressure at idle, then spikes during acceleration. Any ideas? THANKS

What do you mean spikes? The oil pressure is supposed to go up while driving.

Default oil pressure problem

When I accelerate, the gauge goes from 30 psi to the max reading, as far as the needle will go, then returns when I take my foot off the gas. This has never happened before today. It usually rises a little but never off the scale.

Should double check with a manual oil pressure gauge, but 90% of the time when i see this it is the sending unit (sensor) that screws into the block that causes this.
