Fuel Delivery Problems

I just purchased a non running 84 C1500 4x4. After correcting a firing order issue the truck fired right up and ran great. The previous owner stated that the carb needed to be rebuilt because the truck would only start when you poured gas in the down the carb. After fixing the firing order the truck ran fine for a few hours, now it will only start by pouring gas the carb and won't stay running . My first thought is to replace the fuel pump, is there anything else I'm missing that could be causing this?
Thanks

I agree on both issues. But it's possible that there is a Filter inside the Tank, so consider that. Also, if you're not into Carb Rebuilding, one can just get a complete rebuilt Carb and bolt it on.
PS:
If you have one of the GC's by Rochester, you might want to install the new Carb and do a Fuel Ratio Check on it. Should be about 12.5/1 if you're trying for power, and up to 14.5/1 if you're trying for mileage. So, hang on to your old Carb in that you might want to pull the Jets and put them in the new Carb.
