Fuel pressure, 89 Celebrity, where to measure, sta wagon, TBI 4 cyl, 2.5
89 Chev Celebrity Station Wagon 2.5L 4 cyl w auto Xmsn. VIN = 2G1AW81R5K2110759
Need advice on the best place to insert a fitting for measuring fuel pressure w a gage.
I have the 89 Chev Celebrity factory Service manual [the big book, ST 365-89]. On p 6E2-A-22, Chart A-7 shows a flex hose as the point for measuring fuel pressure, at the inlet side of the TBI unit. I cannot find a flex hose anywhere on top of the engine in the vicinity of the TBI unit, only solid metal fuel lines on inlet and return on both sides of the engine, no flex hose anywhere on top of the engine. I was going to try inserting a fitting between the inlet fuel line and the fuel inlet nut at the TBI. I can undo the line at the nut BUT cannot pull it away from the TBI unit to insert a fitting, as the steel bolt holding the fuel line clamp is frozen in the aluminum intake manifold, just as you’d expect it would be. Aluminum and steel do not mix do they. And I’m afraid that too much force will break the bolt. I have dosed it w penetrating oil but to no avail so far. Don’t like the idea of applying flame heat to the bolt so near the gas line but may be forced to try that eventually. Any suggestions for loosening the bolt are welcomed.
Does anyone out there know where the service manual referenced flex hose is located or how else I can easily test the fuel pressure with my fuel pressure measuring kit from Auto Zone.
I am starting to think maybe the location is at the fuel filter under the vehicle, not very convenient in the cold winter weather here in Massachusetts. Haven't crawled under to look yet as there's snow on the ground.
Thnx
Dick
