Default Got some serious problems. Help needed!!

Hello all,

I am new to the forums so bear with me. I have an '88 monte carlo with a 305. I got this car 3 years ago off a friend of mine and there are some problems with it. The one I need figured out is why it keeps dying when I drop it into gear... I have messed with the cap and rotar but I never actually put a timing light on it. It has a quadrajet carb on it..(not sure which series). It will sit there and idle until it runs out of gas but as soon as you put it into gear..(any gear) then it will just die. My dad and I have messed with it over and over again but we just can't seem to figure it out. Any suggestions on what to do would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Zayde

you might have a vacuum leak ,or if it has hei ignition the pick up stater wire's could be breaking when the timing advances enough to move the wire's they loose contact . the oem wire's were a little short .
