Default Headlight/dimmwr switch fried

Headlight/dimmer switch fried. My gauge lights, AC controls, etc stopped working. Found a bad fuse labeled "illumination" replaced it and nothing changed so I replaced the switch and turned the lights on and instantly started smoking and blew the fuse. I have been through 3 switch's and same outcome. So I'm assuming I have a bad wire tbatvis grounded out. So to get to my question is there anyway to run a new wire from switch to fuse block?

It is not the wire from the switch to the fuse. If it was, the fuse would blow immediately. It has to be a wire coming out of the switch. The most likely place to start looking is at both headlights.

It does blows instantly. If the the dimmer is rolled all the way up to the brightest setting it blows it instantly with no smoke. But if the switch is rolled down to lowest setting and your turn the headlights on its fine until you start rolling it up. It will start smoking and by the time you roll it up all the way it pops the fuse and have to replace the switch.

If it were in the wire from the fuse box to the switch it would blow instantly regardless of where the switch is set at.

Yes, the dimmer doesn't have anything to do with it if the short is before the dimmer.
