help hhr won't shift from 3rd gear to 4th gear

help hhr won't shift from 3rd gear to 4th gear
I was just driving down the road and noticed that my coolant was getting hotter than normal and so I then noticed that it wasn't shifting from 3rd to 4th. Why is it doing this?
