Default how works radiator plug ? on many GM

Hello,
Do you know how the radiator plug works?

Cold the radiator communicates ( a little) with the expansion vessel,
but when it is hot, what happens ?
My problem and that of many owners of Trans Sport or Venture is
that i find the radiator with a lack of water "frequently",;
already it has a tendency to heat up sometimes for no reason, which explains why
many cylinder head gaskets on this type of vehicle and breaks it
reputation. What a pity.
I am thinking of replacing the origin plug with a simple drain plug,
which would put the radiator in full permanent connection with the expansion vessel.
But the cooling system would not be under pressure, can we work like this?
just for a try.

Thank you for answering if you have an idea

Best regards.
