Default Identification in-line 6 engine FAAb

Hello Chevrolet friends,
I am trying to buy a engine for a 1946 pickup (original code DBA ). I have an engine that is supposed to be similar (code FAA, for 1948 chevy) but the code is marked also with the character "b". Specifically; FAA b XXXX b.
Does anyone know what this "b" means?
I hope this is the right forum.
Thanks a lot
