Default Idle Help

I'm really an old school mechanic, and when the Computer's came along, I really had trouble keeping up with that... anyway...

After A/C got popular (long time ago) they started installing Idle Compensator's, which would bump the idle up, when the compressor came on. Some were Vacuum, and some were Electric. Right now, when I have the A/C on, and my Burb is just idling, the air is NOT cool, mainly because of the reduced air flow across the condenser (possibly low rpm on the compressor as well).

Do they have an aftermarket "item" which one can (pull/push/switch) which will increase (settable RPM's) the idle ?

PS: I know I could install a manual Throttle, but, I'd like something more "educated" than that.

Appreciate any help you can give.

If you are refering to the vehicle in your profile the idle is controled be the computer. It may have a idle air control motor in it if it is not drive by wire. if it is drive by wire the computer controls the idle speed to a preset value, usually around 700 RPM, and is not adustable. If with throttle cable the idle air control motor will control the idle. Also not adjustable. You can try cleaning the idle air control and passage to see if that helps.

I would think that your a/c problem may be a leak in the system or a cooling fan not working properly or possibly not at all.

JW,

Thanks for your reply.
I've looked at the system pretty well, no slippage and when I speed up the (in neutral) idle to 100-1200 rpm, the A/C blows quite cool, and of course when I'm running down the road at any speed.

But, when I just let it idle with the A/C on, it doesn't blow cold air.
Surely that's not a low Freon issue, is it ? What I"m trying to do is leave someone in the Burb, while I'm away for a few minutes.

Thanks.
