Default If you had a choice with Onstar

Just wondering how many people would purchase Onstar with there new Vehicle ? Knowing what we know about Onstar and all they say they can or cannot do would you spend what it costs to have Onstar in your car, pay the subscription and purchase minutes, IF you had a choice ?

OnStar has unlooked the car for my wife on many occasions and also diagnose the engine light when it came on. I pay for the subscription but do not pay for any minutes. I have a cell phone if I need something. Thanks, Steven

OnStar's business model has been to throw in the hardware and software plus the initial subscription for free in the hopes that certain percentage of owners will keep subscribing. Fleet buyers are able to order vehicles without OnStar but get next to nothing for their troubles. Hint, those who really object to having it installed from the factory should check with the fleet sales manager at most dealerships about ordering. Ergo, it boils down to the subscription level and costs. I for one chose Safe & Sound. And, thanks for not dwelling on "what we know about Onstar and all they say they can or cannot do," I really mean it.

I have it on my new car and truck, I have had it on a few GM cars I have owned, I ran out the free subscription, on the other cars, and that was the end of it.

On star is as useful as xm radio, to me both are useless.

I wish I could take it out! I actually just installed an aftermarket radio so Onstar is useless to me now anyways. And no I wouldnt pay for the service or their minutes.

EinST Im just looking for opinions in a place where GM may notice, not that it'll matter.
Myself I wont have it at all. I dont understand GM making it standard equipment when it may make a difference in sales. Thanks to all that have responded and shown an intrest.

I respect your opinion. I thought I'd offer my thoughts in return in an objective manner to keep things in perspective. And, good folks are offering opinions as pertains to their personal and practical experiences.

I am late to this, but, I Love it. We travel alot with our trailer and even when the cell phone has no service, On Star does. If we crash, I know someone will be sent to help. I have used it many times at two in the morning in the middle of no where needing a place to pull over, On Star has always connected and great help. Need it one time and it is worth having.
