Hi
My name is Joe. I own a 1963 Chevy Impala S/S 409/ 340HP 4 spd. I restored this car in 1980. I wanted to update some internal parts. I changed the following: new Brake master cylinder, new fuel pump, I had the Holley carburetor rebuilt, changed the valve cover and exhaust gaskets. I installed electronic ignition no more points. When I start the car it runs fine. When I take it out for a drive, it starts backfiring. I checked the plugs, the distributor cap for any cracks, the coil. I changed the plug wires. When I start the car it runs fine no backfiring. Only when I take out on the road, it backfires. What have I missed. Any help would be grateful. THANKS. My E-mail jlettie@verizon.net

Did you set the timing? Check the vacuum advance in the distributor for proper operation.
