Default K1500 Transmission or Drivetrain Squeak

Hi all,

First post but have been using this forum for years to help me fix problems, so thanks to those of you who provide the answers!

I have a 1998 K1500 Suburban, Auto, 5.7L that has developed a squeaking noise in either drive or reverse.

It's really hard to explain but sounds a lot like something you would associate with brakes as it gets quicker the faster you go but seems to dissapear at speed (whether this is because the ambient/wind noise drowns it out I dont know)

I noticed it when reversing down my drive and it occurs in both drive and reverse but completely dissapears if I shift into Neutral whilst coasting.

Hope I've explained it well enough for someone to have an idea of what it is!

Transmission fluid is all good, did a fluid and filter change 6 months ago.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction as here in the UK no-one has parts or knowledge of these trucks so I have to order all parts from the US which is super expensive and takes time!

Will

This is somewhat dangerous...

You could putt it on a Lift, and have someone inside to put it in gear, and idle up to simulate driving. Carefully look/listen to where the noise is coming from.

Be careful.

Hey uksuburban, did you ever figure out what the squeaking was? I have a similar noise I'm trying to figure out. I posted here:

hoping to find some answers. Any info you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would remove the rear driveshaft and check for dry/tight ujoints as previously mentioned. They will make a distinct squeak/creak noise that will increase in frequency proportional to vehicle speed.
