Light prob

When I turn on my headlights my fuel gauge goes out I have no taillights but my brake lights work. Where should i start troubleshooting?

tailight ground, then look for corrosion on wire contact points on the headlight switch and fuses as these are common probems (and almost free to fix) then i would replace the headlight switch
