Loss of horsepower
Hello,
I have a 79 Chevy k20 with a rebuilt 350 small block. Has about 280 miles on rebuild and has been running great up until this weekend. Drove it about 15 miles out of town but when I started it to come home It's running rough and sluggish; checked plugs and wires those are good. Not sure if it's possible for the timing to be thrown off while driving. Not sure if it's carburetor issues, valve or lifter issues. Everything is new besides power steering pump and alternator. Fairly new to Chevy motors so I'll answer questions the best I can if any. Any and all input is appreciated; thank you!

Ye the timing can slip while driving. A few questions. Does the motor start normal or does it turn over a while before it starts ? Was the carburetor rebuilt ? If not the float could be sticking and needs rebuilt. Does it have a lifter or valve chatter ( pinning or rattle )?
The carburetor is gunna be rebuilt today. I'm gunna check the lifters as well cause it has a slight tick and was told may be some metal flakes from the engine break in?. Gunna check the timing as well and it usually starts right up. When it's really cold out it takes a sec witch I kinda expected that.
