Need help fine tuning my 78 chevy 350

Ok so it started running rough and bogging when I accelerate.
I figured it was the top carb gasket because it was shmooshed,
probably from re-tightening the replace bottom gasket.
So I did a repair kit, basicly just being gaskets,orings, and float needle/
It asked me to remove the Fuel/Air mixture needles so I counted the turns and removed them. (which I could have gotten away with out touching them.
After some flooding issues that ar fixed, and pinched vacuum making it idle high idle low little hey little ho, Now the muffle noise seems louder. Also the carb's whistle as gotten slightly louder. (air cleaner is off)
(sounds like a vaccuum leak but its comming from near the front ports.)
If I shake the brake booster vac, it sounds like a slight idle change or if I spray etheer but I cant actually tell. It could just be my arm changing airflow from my arm being over the top of the carb since the air cleaner is off.
Should I put teflon tape around it?
I cant tell what it is but something just doesnt seem right about it.
maybe just play with the low high some more.

Play with the high low but in slight increments it seems like your close put your timing light on and set to your harmonic balancer and try the ether while running the gun tricky I know but that would be the most accurate way to notice a difference in idle and I suggest running it with your air cleaner on also
