Need help from the SBC Gurus
First post. And, I'm starting with some pretty basic (I think) questions. Okay, here's what I know about the motor I've put in my CJ8 a.k.a. Scrambler project.
- 5.7 from a '96 2500 series truck
- Roller motor
- Rebuilt by a very reputable (friend of a friend) builder
- All new internals
- Built to factory specs
- Yet to run since rebuild
Here's where I need some guidance.
- The CJ is a mildly built street-legal restomod
- 35" tires
- 4.56 gears (this, with the 35s put it very close to factory ratio)
- The Jeep will see some off-road use so angles are an issue - carb's don't do well... or at least as well as some type of F.I.
- I want smooth, reliable performance.
- The motor in its "stockest" form will be roughly 3x the original HP of the once 2.5 L. CJ. So while all the high-end Edlebrock stuff is really cool... but I really don't "need" it.
- I "think" (which based on my total lack of knowledge is dangerous) that a stock TBI setup will work great...
So, what would you do? New TBI kit from Jegs/Summitt? Poach pieces from a junkyard? Put a good "offroad" carburetor on there?
Thank for ANY guidance.

go with fuel injection. the stock vortec intake setup, or holley's pro-jection is a popular one. you'll get better throttle response, no flooding if your uphill or tilted on a trail. find a donor rig/motor for the vortec setup, jegs/summit for anything aftermarket (holley setup, edelbrock's, etc)
