ticking from valve train at times, there is a sticker under the hood that shows valve adj. gap, leads me to believe they are solid lifters, but I'm not sure. doesn"t seem to bother how it runs, doesn"t seem to use oil, but only had it a few days.

I'm thinking you guys don"t want to talk to me because a prizm is a toyota GM half breed. I bought it to drive to work because I have a 80 mi. round trip and my s10 wasn"t very good on gas, and I got it real cheap, has 183k on it, but seems to run pretty good.

The lifters are adjustable. But if it were a adjustment problem it would tap all the time.

ok, thanks, I changed the oil and the lifter noise is only present for about a min. when it"s started cold, then it stops, but it is using about a quart in a thousand miles, any suggestions?

that could be why its using a qt every 1,000miles. And 1gary did say in his first post that they are known for using oil. Its annoying but I've seen vehicles use a lot more and run fine. I'd let it be. Or rebuild.

I believe you are right, alot of miles, I put some STP in it, seems to have helped a little. a friend of mine who is a mechanic told me to put in a qt. of trans fluid in it and run it 100 miles then change the oil again, says it will clean it out, guess it can"t hurt. would 10w40 oil be alright?
