New battery and alternator, truck still dies
Hello, brought my truck into the shop and had an alternator and, belt and battery installed. Since having my truck back I've come out to a dead truck, no lights no keyless entry every morning. I hook up my battery charger when this happens and I get the truck running but this is not what I should be doing every morning. Also it is -30 Celsius up here in Winnipeg Canada. I have come outside a few times in the evening and walked past my vehicle and heard a fan of some sort by the windshield. Could this be drawing my battery dead. How do I correct this? Is there a way to reset my computer system or are you even supposed to reset the computer system after the work has been done. I've taken it back to my local Fountain Tire but they seem to be useless and offer the lame "oh it's not our parts, leave it with us for a few days so we can find the issue". Any help would be great.
No. I've never had an issue. We use our block heater to release some of the stress the battery takes when starting in such cold weather. The issue only started since getting the vehicle back from the mechanic. This vehicle has been in the family since its original purchase and has been to the dealership for regular maintenance.
If there is a fan running all night it would drain your battery. Disconnect the heater blower motor and see if the noise stops. The block heater if left on all night could also drain the battery.
My opinion, you got a crappy battery, or in your post you have something pulling the battery down. I'd suggest if it's not a maintanence free (which I won't use) check the the specific gravity of each cell. If you suspect you have something draining the battery when not running, you will have to pinpoint the source.
