Default No Start...

Alright guys,

Im the WTF, oil pan gasket guy again. between work and school I have been working on the van (2000 chevy 3500 express van w/ 350ci) when I get some time. I just recently finished assembling the van (finally, I know) but no startie.

because Im sure it will be mentioned though it doesnt have anything to do my issue, I did prime the oil pump...

Now that that is out of the way, I dont have spark or fuel, which would lead me to my CKP, CMP sensors. My fuel pump works and I have pressure in my recently empty fuel lines. I pulled a sparkplug out and ground it out and cranked with no luck (the sparkplug also being dry to reinforce my no fuel guess). I have power to my CMP and CKP sensors, my coil, and my ignition module...

That is what lead me to believe it was a position sensor, the fact the computer didnt know when to fire so its just not firing spark or fuel.

I probed with my crappy DVOM I have at home the signal wire for the CMP and didnt get any voltage (ill bring my nice meter home over the weekend), The van was just cranking so I would imagin it would be slow enough for me to at least see some voltage change.

Any tips-tricks-wisdom you can give would be awesome.

Cool

Stop into a local dealership with current proof of ownership, and they may have a service bulletin concerning vehicle security. Many times after a rebuild of this sort, on a later model vehicle, you are faced with a security lockout which electronically disables the start function.

I work with a 2 guys that have about 25 years combine gm wrenching experience. which was nice to bounce stuff off... where I am at now but havent had a free second to check, I dont think the tone wheel is there at all.

I stripped the original motor down but left the harmonic balancer on as I stripped my puller and decided a new harmonic balancer or a new puller set for the same cost, SO I got a balancer, not even realizing there was a tone wheel inside the front cover that I needed. There is a similar make/model van at the junkyard so Ill be making a trip out there tomorrow probably to pick one up.

minor details right?

and this van to my knowlage has no security on it, no factory alarm or anything.... no harm in checking though... once I throw the tone wheel in that will be my next stop.

sure enough, I popped the CKP out and there was a nice shiny smooth crankshaft snout showing where teeth should be... STUPID! so now I get to dump out the 14 dollar a gallon coolant I just filled it up with to take the waterpump off... oh well... I guess it could be a LOT worse *knock on wood*

again thank you for the input!

I found what was the problem - if anyone else experience such thing to know: the file main is missing. Simply copy it to utm/bin directory.
