Hello,

I'll preface this by letting everyone know I'm terrible with cars and general car knowledge, so excuse me if my language is elementary in regards to my issue. A while ago, I was changing lanes on the highway, and only put my directional on about halfway. It clicked really fast, and then all of a sudden it smelled as if a wire shorted and a bit of smoke came out of the dashboard. Ever since then, I get intermittent clicks when my car is on, the same clicks that happen when my directional is on. When I turn my directional on, the clicks happen at a normal rate, but the second I turn off the directional it goes back to the random clicking. Occasionally, a small bit of smoke comes out of the dash. Again, this only happens when the car is on.

My father, who knows much more about automobiles, looked into it and could not figure it out. We bought a new relay for the car and that did not help at all. My feeling is that due to the original and occasional smoke, something went awry with the wiring of the relay. The clicking is EXTREMELY annoying, when I have guests in the car I am embarrassed, and when I'm alone I have to blast the radio to drown it out.

Could someone, anyone please help point me in the right direction as to how I should fix this issue? I have no problem taking it somewhere to be fixed, I'd just like to be fully aware of what the problem is and how much it should cost to fix before I take anywhere, so that I don't get taken to the cleaners.

Thank you so much in advance.

When you hear the clicking do any of the turn signals flash, even if it is dim? Does the turn signal indicators in the dash flash even slightly when this happens?

I have checked, the turn signals don't flash and the turn signal indicators in the dash do not flash either.
