Default Remote Starter Question

Is there a way to lengthen the time a vehicle will stay running after starting with the remote starter? My 08 Silverado has factory installed remote starter and it will shut off after 10 minutes....

Not that I am aware of, its a factory setting, 10 minutes is pretty long and should be more them ample time to warm up a vehicle

You would need to have a aftermarket unit installed.

I looked through the owners manual for a 2008 Silverado and it shows that you can't change how long the vehicle stays on but you can extend it. If it is the first time that the vehicle has been started in this way then you can go back through the steps again to extend the time the vehicle is on for another 10 minutes. This is what the manual says.

If it is the first remote start since the vehicle has
been driven, repeat these steps, while the engine
is still running, to extend the engine running time
by 10 minutes. Remote start can be extended
one time.

I hope that helps you.

You can do 2 ten minute cycles then you must start it with the key to start the cycles over.

I would agree with MDTAHOE. The full length of the remote start should you need it would be two times through the steps for remote start to make it 20 minutes for the vehicle to be on. I hope that helps.

Default Eliminate having to restart with key

I have a 2008 Silverado 2500HD x cab. Is there a way to eliminate having to start the vehicle with a key after using the remote start once. I under stand it can be extended 10 min. but what is the reason for not being able to remote start twice? Thanks Frank

you should be able to remote start 2x in a row before manually turning the key.

the reason is to stop people from idling the vehicle for extended periods polluting the environment.

Ok thanks for the reason. I'll double check for being able to start it twice with out having to turn the key.
