Replacing ECU .... use old chip or not..

I have an intermittent knock sensor error code on an OBD1 van. New knock sensor didn't help. Wiring checks out OK. I bought a used ECU online but it is not from the same vehicle as mine (same year and part #, but different engine). Do I need to use the Chip from the old ECU in the replacement, or are they all the same. Original is a 454 and replacement is a 350.

I am too seeking answers to these kinds of questions. In this regard, I would request you to take the shelter from engineers and mechanics.

Fixed

I got the used ECM in the mail today. Different calibration code, but same part number. I put the prom from my old ECM into the new (used) one and no more check engine light. $37 fix, so I'm a happy camper! PTL
