Default A review on an intelligent car gadget-iOBD2

On-board car computer has been popular for many years. Car owner can learn more about data beyond the regular dashboards by it. But the install is not convenient. Here we review a device called iOBD2 that is easier to install and has more functions.

What is iOBD2?
In fact, wireless OBD diagnostics is not something new, but it has not been popularized. iOBD2 is a vehicle diagnostic system combined of iOBD2 adapter, smartphone and iOBD2 app. Its biggest feature is convenient. With wireless connection, you just need to plug the iOBD2 adapter into the OBD2 connector and install the iOBD2 app on your phone. Then it turns your phone into a portable on-board computer, reading car engine data such as engine speed, water temperature and average fuel consumption when the car is driving. In addition, you can use it as speed timer as well. At present, iOBD2 supports for iOS and Android system. We take a look on the iOS version.

Install iOBD2

1.Plug the adapter

Plug the iOBD2 adapter into the OBD connector. You should see the green indicator on the adapter lights once plugged in.

2.Install the app

Search the iOBD2 on App store. The latest version is V1.9 updated on Jan 29, 2013.

3.Set Wi-Fi connection

The iOBD2 adapter connects with the phone by Wi-Fi. Once the app installed, open the app, click connection button and select Wi-Fi option, in a moment the car model information will be displayed. The connection is complete when Wi-Fi indicator appears on the status bar of the phone. With a clear and simple layout, the UI is impressive.

Function

1. Diagnosis

The most practical function in this feature is read trouble codes. Once there are any codes, you can clear the codes before going to a mechanic. Function like vehicle information is not so practical.

2.My dashboard

Click the button My dashboard on the main menu, it displays a layout like the car dashboard display. There are four modes: Idle mode, Cruise mode, Sport mode, and Performance mode. Let’s see what specific functions it has.

3. Performance test

With this feature, you can test the results of acceleration by setting an initial speed to the end speed. In order to see the accuracy of the data, we take a 0 to 100km/h test. The result is 0.34s discrepancy with that of professional test instrument, which is a little surprise for us.Although there is some discrepancy, it is enough for the ordinary users to get a reference.

Shortcoming

After trying iOBD2, we find one of the most inconvenient is that if you press the Quick do or Home button when driving the car, iOBD2 will be disconnected. You have to select Wi-Fi connection again each time you enter the app.
