rocker arm problem
just rebuilt a 1998 5.7 chevy, rocker arms started making a clacking noise, adjusted them, the clacking got a little quieter, now when I shut the motor down, most of the rocker arms are loose.doesn't look like there is any wear on the arms.could it be the nuts wear out or should the rockers be replaced

Is this the vortec 5.7l?
Did you use guide plates?
How exactly did you adjust them?

it is a stock vortec, these are stock rocker arms,no guide plates and tried adjusting all of them it doesn't seem to make a difference on which ones are adjusted

If the engine is off - Are you rotating the engine to the right place?
I have no idea which method you are using.
I've only done it on a 1994 lt1 with crane gold 1.6 self adjusting rockers with the engine off. I remember doing once after new cam and lifter install, and then doing it after camshaft break-in after the lifters where pumped up.
Never done it running.
