Need more info. Do you have headers? Did you get the vehicle with the original starter? What name brand starters have you been using? Rebuilt/new?
What size engine? Does it run hot/overheat much?
Work/transportation-highway-offroad use, primarily? (A buddy of mine couldn't figure out how he was burning up starters with his off-road toy, the last one we pulled out had a pound of mud on top, acting as a heat super-insulator.)

How do they go bad? Do you have pictures of your previous starters?
Not sure about Tahoe, but some starters have a relais.(Like the Chevy G20 1996+ ). Sometimes its that relais that breaks down , while the starter itself is still functional.
If you install a new starter, do you have to start up long before the engine takes of?
If the starter has to turn around too long, it has greater odds of overheating.
So...pictures please. (And start with the type of starter you're using).
And carefull with your fingers when you pull the starter apart. The magnet is frigging hard . (Yes...experience

I have also had to change mine about 3 times, according to the mechanic we use for our work trucks, it's a problem with the relay in the high torque starters.
Don't know for sure.

Well i took it a part yesterday and i figured it was the fly wheel cause it was missing a couple of teeth. Now my question is How do I remove the fly wheel from the car. Does any one have pic or instructions. Yes i am using AC DELCO parts. When i try and crank the engine it makes a loud loud noise. But the engine does not turn over at all.

Automatic transmission or manual?
If it's an Automatic, it's really a flex-plate bolted to the front of your torque converter that has the teeth for the starter spur gear to contact...
...either way it's the same basic job, drop your drive-shaft, drop your tranny, then replace either your flywheel or the flex-plate on your T/C.
