Default Starter for SB350

So I have a SB350 with an automatic 350t trans. My starter broke and I bought a new one with staggered bolt holes but it doesn't have enough clearance to reach the flex plate/ flywheel. The casting on the starter hits the transmission case. Am I supposed to use the in line bolt starter?? The original starter was an in line bolt pattern. thank you

Can you exchange the casting with the old starter?
