Default straight pipes

i have a 1986 suburban 454 and i want to have a choice in if i want straight pipe or not i have flowmaster on it now and i want to go ahead of the muffler cut about 3 inches out of pipe then let it be like that when i want it loud but i bought a exasht connector that i want to just slip on when i want it to be muffled anybody got some ideas on this

weld a header collecter (exhaust side) to the side of the pipe and use wing nuts on a steel plate to seal it up (and cut the hole of course) and any time u want just take off the plate
