Welcome to the forum Andre. The price sounds a bit high to Me. It may cost more in Florida than Texas but, it shouldn't be that high.

Back in July the A/C compressor on my 1998 Subburban died. The total repair bill was a little over $800. I understand that when the compressor dies, trash from the dying compressor gets throughout the entire system, and if the other parts aren't replaced, then the trash will get recirculated, ruining the new compressor.

It is usually recomended to perform flushing in order to remove residual oil from the system. Putting oil to the system to replace that which has been lost will yield to inaccurate amount of oil that'll be added to the system because there is no way to know how much has been lost due to leakage. With flushing, you'll be able to get rid of all the oil so the exact amount specified by the vehicle manufacturer can be added back to your system. By the way I also think that the dryer and AC compressor charge is a rip off.
