Default th350 fluid

hey guys, im pretty new to the chevy scene, i recently picked up a th350 to put in my firebird. the trans is from a 76 Malibu with a 350 sbc. i put a new converter in and also put in a shift kit, i was wondering if i could use mercon V fluid? im only considering this as i work at ford and have accumulated a full case of the stuff over that last few years. i have tried searching the net and found mixed reviews on the subject, i would appreciate any input you may have to offer.

I'd not. Use dexron as even if the fluid is changed with that vintage the convertor is still some dexron. Save a tranny and spend $20 on dexron, imo

Why take a chance on ruining the tranny. What would it cost to repair it if the mercon isn't good for it.
