Default Trailblazer thermostat question

Does anyone know if you can take out the thermostat and run it just on the housing in a 2002 Trailblazer, 4d, 4.2L? I was told I could but has anyone seen or heard of anyone doing this?

You need some restriction in the flow so the coolent will have "time" in the radiator to cool.

I used to have an 03 Trailblazer and the thermostat and the housing were all 1 piece. I guess you could break out the thermostat but it is not recommended.
