Default Transmission issues

I'v got a 2000 chevy Silverado 1500. It has 218000 miles on it. I was driving today and I wanted to pass someone, put the throttle to the floor and the engine revved up but the truck itself didn't speed up. If I slowly press in the throttle it will speed up ok. A while back I carried a heavy load 300 miles and Im sure i overworked and over heated the transmission due to some issues I encountered during the trip and the check engine light came on. A while after the truck was parked and off loaded, I started it and the check engine light went away and it didn't spit out a code. I'm sure I need to have it rebuilt but I need some time. Is there anything I can do to make it last a little while longer? I checked fluids and everything is good. I need about 1000 more miles out of it if thats possible.

Maybe a transmission fluid change and a good additive might get you that 1000 miles. I have heard that Lucas makes a good additive.

Well I found out it was the fuel pump. I replaced it today and my truck runs great now. Thanks
