valve lifters-hydraulic or solid??

Default valve lifters-hydraulic or solid??

hi! i adjusted the valves on my ebay special 267ci chevy v8, as it came with very loose rockers. i followed the manual to adjust for hydraulic lifters,and the result was that the intake valves remained open by about a quater inch when they were meant to be closed! im assuming this means they must be solid lifters and not hydraulic.anyway ive now adjusted with the valves fully closed and leaving a feeler gauge gap,the engines been running and sounds ok. can anyone tell me if my thinking is correct,that the lifters must be solid? thanks,jason

Check and see if oil is being squirted through the pushrods while the engine is running, if not then they are solid. From what you have said, i believe they are solid

i think chevy made a few engines with solid lifters as standard,does anyone know if the 265 was one of them?

the 265 was offered with solid and hydraulic.

The o/p stated he has a "267" V8 and not a "265".As linked the 265's where built in the mid 1950's and would not have bolt holes for drive systems in the heads and the 267 was built in the mid 1970's which would have those holes in the heads and was only offered with hydro lifter cam.

yet in another post prior to my posting the link, he did ask about the 265.

I'll flip a coin and................. I suggest we wait until Jason supplies us with I.D. numbers off the engine before we tell him how to adjust valves on a engine we are not sure which engine he has.
