Default Welding 01 Avalanche Lower Control Arm

I am using the frame from a 2001 Chev Avalanche for a 54 chev truck project. I am removing the torsion completely putting RideTech air shocks on the front and am wondering if the material on these control arms is able to be welded. I need a plate in the small triangle area by the ball joint to mount the air shock to. Using the shock mount doesn't give enough clearance for the bag. It also no longer is 4 wheel drive.

Anyone have any experience with this? Is it cast? Any idea what the material is?

Current idea is to bolt the plate in, but welding would be much cleaner - but potentially a lot of problems.

The 2 wd steel stamped control arms do not fit, would have been much easier.

Thanks
