Default What do i buy??

Car and truck people, PLEASE HELP.

I am trying to decide what vehicle to buy. Right now I am deciding between Silverado 1500 LTZ its GMC brother sierra 1500 SLT (07-13) or (14-Present) and 06-07 F250/F350 Lariat. (the 6.blow). My budget is 25K.

Here is what I know:

Chevy/GMC 1500s are basically identical except for badges. The engine would be their 5.3 Vortec. What I cant seem to find much information on is the differences between generations 2nd gen(07-13) and 3rd gen(14-now). there seems to be an increase in MPG but there is no explanation since they are the same engine.

With the ford I would be looking to get a 6.0 powerstroke. I understand they have problems, but from my understanding if all the preventative maintenance is done, they should last easy to 300K miles. So i am only looked at bulletproofed engines.

I want a reliable truck that i will keep for about 5-7 years with proper maintenance. I also want it to be fun. Regardless of the truck, i will want to do some custom work to the truck such as leveling kit, slightly bigger tires, exhaust and tuning.

If you have an advice or suggestions let me know. Also if you have had any personal experience with the vehicles, could you tell me what you liked, didn't liked? Thanks!

the 07-14 5.3 is manifold fuel injection. the new 5.3 is gas direct injection into the cylinder...new tech with better mpg.

do not get a 5.3 built before november 2009 due to oil consumption issues with the active fuel management/cylinder deactivation system.

buying a old high mileage diesel has some risk. they are expensive to purchase and to repair. injectors can be up to $800 each x 8 + labour to install. turbos and injection pumps 3-5 grand each + labour. the good thing is your before def injection particulate filters, egr coolers. Don;t buy anything tuned...headgasket 30 hours labour
if you don't need the towing power, don't get a diesel.
tuning wise...tuners on gasers are a waste. tuning turbo diesels is where the powers at but can the trans and headgaskets survive.
