Default whining noise

Hi lately ive noticed either at a low speed or first or second gear I hear a whining noise, I turned my car on and checked the transmission fluid and its low. Think this could be the problem? ive already put 4 quarts in and when its running it says its almost empty like | | this much from the bottom of the dipstick is this acurate or should i check it when the car is on?

Typacally the transmission fluid is checked with:

Engine on
Engine and tranny warm
Tranny in park
Parking brake set
Vehicle on level surface
fluid should be in middle to upper hash marks...

Your owners manual should have a maintenance section that explains how to properly check the fluid..

If you have added 4 quarts you should be seeing some kind of leakage under the vehicle if it was that low... along with some tranny slippage...

If you have over filled the fluid it will need to be removed as damage to seals can result.

If you are unsure have it looked at by a professional mechanical or transmission shop...
