Default HHR knock sensor

You guys are an incredible wealth of information and I've learned so much by just reading. Now I have what may sound like a silly question, but I'll ask anyway. We're getting a code for a bad knock sensor and I want to replace it. Where on the engine should I look for this thing? My intention was to get the new one and then look for something that looked like the new one, but somehow I guess it would be simpler to know where to look in the first place.

Thanks guys.

Larry if you are going to buy a new one I would suggest for getting your chevy parts for your hhr to buy them from http://www.chevyclub.org/chevy-hhr-parts.html they will be quite a bit cheaper than your dealer. This sensor should not be hard to replace.

Edited because apparantly I cannot spell!

Thanks, longtimechevyfan. I may do just that. And certainly will save the web address for future use.

Thanks again.

Time to share the wealth. Finally got around to replacing the knock sensor. This is my wife's car and between her work, grocery getting and Walmart it was hard to find time for this. Shawn, thanks for the great drawing. It headed me in the right direction. The only way to approach this is from under the car. The knock sensor can be found right above the starter. Just a matter of unplugging the old one and removing the bolt that secures the sensor to the block. Although it appears to be nearly impossible without removing the starter, it's actually fairly simple to do so with the starter in place. The connector is out in the open. So that part's easy. A short 3/8 drive 13 MM socket, a short extension and a 3/8 ratchet (with a swivel head) allows you to remove and replace the sensor. I suppose knowing what I know now I could do this in half an hour. This does not include the half hour it took to retrieve a dropped socket from a cavity behind the starter.

Thanks again for the help. I appreciate it.
