had the same problem with mine.
"power steering" message in dash would resolve upon restart, would fail again after a few miles of driving.
i brought my car to the dealer that i bought it from (or should i say, the dealer that robbed me) and did not give them the option to not fix it under warranty.

it's a real shame that Chevy stopped caring after the looks of this car. it's a real piece of trash.

Angry bad power steering motor yet no recall in US???

Hi
I have 2007 HHR with a bad power steering motor. Naturally this occurred after the warrenty expired. My issue is as follows:
The Power steering motor is the same one that is used in the Chevy Cobolt-to which they issued a recall for.
They issued a recall for the Canadian HHR power steering motor-same motor and factory as Canada...
Yet nothing for your US consumers?????? must I get into a car accident and sue?
Im just wondering what the logic is and I would love to have someone from customer service contact me and explain.

Default hhr power steering issues

The power steering in my 2009 HHR goes out w/o warning, at various speeds. When it started, I contacted my local dealer and Chevy and was led to beleive that this was an unusual occurrence. Since then, I have seen hundreds of complaints, similar to mine, dating back to 2006. The power steering units in these cars are faulty and dangerous and Chevy knows it. They have already recalled the same ones in Ions, Cobalts, and Malibus and have only failed to recall all of them because they have not yet been made to do so. Hopefully, they will take responsibility for wrecklessly endangering so many trusting consumers and address this issue before someone gets killed, if it hasn't already happened.

I had the same issue...GM /Chevy is well aware of it. Went I went to the dealer I presented that I was well aware of all the issues how long etc. THe dealer called Chevy and they "pro-rated" what they were willing to assist in good faith based on year of car & miles. they ended up paying for half of the repair.
I totally agree they should recall.....but I took the half payment as thats the best I could get

Hey Louis can you contact me also. I have a 2010 HHR with the power steering issue too and my car has less than 27k miles on it. The dealership wants to charge me 100.00 just to tell me which part is out (column or motor) then charge for repairs. my warranty was up in Feb and I really dont think this should be a cost for me at all as this SHOULD be a recall being it looks like there are tons of people are having the same issue the 08 09 did and you guys did a recall. Can you please provide me a # to contact you and discuss this further as its pretty unsafe for my wife to be having to drive this way

I have a very similar problem. My battery fail then I jump start the car and changed the battery but since the jump start the power steering went off. Next week I will bring the car to the chevy dealer but in the mean time I called the customer service and they just say that they have no recall for this problem, when reading around it sound exactly the contrary. I have a 2008 hhr LT with 80k miles, I m sure they will ask me at least 1000$ to fix it.....because my local chevy retailer always ask me to pay an insane amount of money for any fix.
