This is where using a quality silicone comes into play. Just put a bead directly onto the block,(about 1/8inch thick) lay the gasket onto it, and put another bead on top of it and you should be good to go.

On the old 3.1L and 2.8L engines, the intake gaskets you got for them, only had a gasket for the heads. The "valley" onthe block had to be filled with pure silicone, no gasket at all
