03 Impala
Ok, ill keep it short, one day i went to start up my car, went fine, but as soon as i pulled out, the TC and ABS came up at the same time. Next time i started my car, teh lights did not come on, so i spun in teh snow a little to see if the TC light would kick in, and it did. But after a short period of driving, they both came on again while driving, with no brakes applied. Its done the latter ever since, and so i asked a friend. He says it seems like its probably a fuse, but obviously cant be sure.. and im avoiding takign it to teh dealership to avoid getting hosed. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and resolved it?
I had the same problem on my '02. Had the wheel speed sensors replaced and replaced and replaced. I wasn't about to replace the ABS system- I've read about people who've done that and it didn't fix it and they were out quite a bit of $$$. I finally disconnected the ABS. And have had no problems. Apparently there's no fix yet.
Mine would do it when starting the car and then taking off even though not spinning.
I read on another forum that it was the wires/connections going to the wheel sensors
When i had the 100,000 mile service done, i had the mechanic clean the connections at
the sensors.
Since then, it has never done it again. I also read where if that doesn't solve it, they
make a new wiring harness going to the sensors, because the factory ones are too short
and become frayed/worn. I believe it said the wiring was $49/side.

After having the front brakes and rotors replaced on my '03 LS at the dealer (I know, dealer prices etc but I am getting ready to sell it and some people like the idea that a dealer did the work) and the TC Fault message and the ABS displayed a few days later when taking off from a stop sign on a wet road. I took it back to the dealer who checked it over and informed me it was the modulator valve unit ($1500 part). I checked with a nephew (a GM trained mechanic who now has his own garge) who said he doesn't remember ever replacing one of those but does replace about 4 wheel sensors a week. I told the dealer to hold off and for some reason I have not been able to make it happen since "they looked at it". We also read out the codes on the ABS system and found no faults in current or history.
I suggest you get a scanner that provides ability to read the ABS codes or take it to your local garage that has a scanner. I don't know if the scanners at Autozone or others that do it for free can access the ABS system. I have had an AutoTap system for awhile but it only reads powertrain codes. I bought a OBDSCAN-APEX from Harrison R&D to access the ABS codes but wescanned them at a friend's garage so I haven't used the new system yet. If you take it for scanning, do it with the ABS/TC lights on so you are seeing the active fault code.
'03 Impala LS, silver, all available options, $9300

When you had the brakes replaced they could of accidently messed with the connection
for the abs/tc sensor. I've read about people having the wheel sensors replaced, but what
was actually wrong was the wiring or conections. It works for a while after having it replaced
because of them messing with the connections. Just a thought.
