'03 Impala - 9C1 - Power Loss at high RPMS
#11
Thanks, I purchased a magnaflow cat, it's a direct fit for my vehicle, so should work well, but only when I get it installed will I know for sure.
The cat seems to keep the harmful emissions out of the air, so it's good for the environment to have it working, which is always good since it can use all the help we
can give it.
Thanks for all the advice, I'll let you all know how the new cat works out.
Cheers!

New cat fixed problem!
Hi Guys, thanks for the help in diagnosing the problem. JATT, thanks for letting me know you had the same problem, you were right that my problem was similar. I guess the loss in power is a big symptom of that.
Thanks to everyone for your time in clicking on my thread and helping me out.
I put in the new cat, left town for a while and didn't have a chance to test it, then when I got back, took it for a spin and it was powerful like before, maybe even more powerful? But I don't really notice it. It's got passing power again, that's for sure.
Well, if anybody else has a power loss problem at high RPMs, check your cat!
Now I have a very well running 9C1. Except the oil's dripping, but I think it'll stop after a while, it was probably because of the back pressures. Hopefully it didn't wreck a seal.
I'll have to trace the leak down.
Cheers.
David.

Ya more power would be nice, 3.8L.
What do you think about installing a turbo charger?
Which one would you get for it?
I was thinking of doing it, but there isn't much room in there to work.
It would be a sweet mod but take some major modifications.
A supercharger would be nice too, since you could use an old GM one.
You'd have to do injectors, intake and exhaust,
etc.
Big job right? Damn, it'd be awesome though.

Turbo charger...got 9 grand laying around? Its about 6 grand for everything not counting the transmission upgrades you will need. Id stay away
You can do a top swap with a m90 SC if you want. I know the details on that.
If I were to do it again, K&N intake, Delete Ubend, Ported exhaust manifolds, 2.5" Downpipe, 2.5 " Exhaust. And start from there

Nope, don't got that cash. So forget that!
I guess it's best to just free up the intake and exhaust restrictions for now, but that would only yield small amounts of power increase. It would be nice to turbo it, buy you're right, even though this is a police package, they didn't do much but add a few coolers and make the shifts tighter, and I don't even feel that, still feels like a family car to me.
Thanks for the tips!
