My driver front tire feels like it is wobbling driving down the road. It sort of hums when you're driving with an occasional whine. I have checked the lugs to make sure it wasn't loose and when the car is jacked up the wheel has some play if you push or pull on the 6 and 12 positions. Could this be a bad wheel bearing or hub? Or possibly one of the control arms? This is on an 04 Impala 145000 miles.

 

if its a bearing, the growling sound heard when driving will become quieter when unloaded....drive at hwy speed and do long sweeping turns left then right.

 

The whine suggests it's a wheel bearing. The play you noticed when you jacked it up could also be a bad ball joint.
